WE'RE MOVING ALREADY

You can now follow our blog at:

We just learned, belatedly, of the death of Bill Jay (1940-2009). We knew him best from his entertaining writing in LENSWORK -- a nice little piece call 'EndNotes'. We occasionally disagreed, but we always enjoyed his writing and his wit. He will be missed.

Photographers we admire

Photographers we admire:
JAN SAUDEK (1935-   ) Born in Prague -- known for bold, beautiful, sometimes not so beautiful photographs. Worked behind the 'iron curtain', with limited materials and workspace, making erotic, socially-challenging photographs. Many are beautiful hand-colored jewels. He never fails to make an important artistic statement. Still active, still challenging after all these years... a truly unique talent.

Photographers we admire

Photographers we admire:
ALFRED STIEGLITZ (1864-1946) - a towering figure in the seminal days of photography - not just a fine photographer, but a mentor and patron to many, including Weston, Adams and others. Stieglitz also championed important painters, including his much-younger wife, Georgia O'Keeffe. Stieglitz was one of the early champions of 'photography as art', and as an independent gallery owner and collector, was able to advance this cause, publishing two important journals of photography, Camera Notes and later, Camera Work.
Our favorite Stieglitz photos: the fantastic portraits and nudes of his striking wife, O'Keeffe...

what is a blog?

Really, what is a blog? ... it surely means different things to different people. In choosing what to write (and how often to write) we are faced with trying to understand what we hope to accomplish. These are things that are possible (not necessarily in order of importance): educate, inform, promote, network, guide, vent, purge, crystallize ideas, criticize, solicit feedback, and more
If you like what we have to say, follow us. If you don't, let us know that too. We hope something worthwhile happens here.
Hoping we are all on the path to peace... S&M (it's not what you're thinking... it's our initials)

Woodstock Land Conservancy

We are delighted to have been invited to participate in a project to benefit the Woodstock Land Conservancy. Our prints will be exhibited at The Center For Photography At Woodstock in January, 2010. We had a magnificent morning of shooting in the mountains, at an old quarry, in the rain, a few days ago. Shooting in the rain can be magical -- and demanding -- and well worth the effort. We're pleased with the results.

Taking the plunge...

Ok, here we are - now we'll figure out what to do with it.
As an introduction, we are photographers of the nude and nature, and often the nude in nature. Our name as a team is PHOTOSENSUALIS, and the word describes our creative and artistic process. We run a gallery and photo bookstore as well, in charming Woodstock, NY, where we exhibit our own work and also the work of others. Living in the Catskills provides us with magnificent, yet accessible, nature in which to ply our craft. We also shoot indoors, in old houses, in barns, in sheds -- wherever the natural light is beautiful and the subject is compelling. We'll share more as time permits. In the meantime, our work can be seen at http://photosensualis.com/photosensualis.com/Home.html
